Frequently Asked Questions

  • WHAT IS HVAC? (pronounced either "H-V-A-C" or "aitch-vak") is an acronym that stands for the closely related functions of "Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning"- the technology of indoor environmental comfort.

  • WHAT IS SEER? an abbreviation for Season Energy Efficiency Rating and is a measure of how efficient a unit operates. For a layperson the best explanation of SEER is that it is the same as MPG. A 13 SEER product, for example, would be more efficient than a 10 SEER unit.

  • CAN I PLACE PLANTS AROUND MY OUTDOOR UNIT?  Yes, but make sure you keep clearance for proper airflow.

  • WHAT ARE MY PAYMENT OPTIONS? We accept cash, check, MasterCard and Visa or we can arrange financing.

  • WHAT IS A 2 STAGE GAS VALVE?  It is a valve that meters gas into your furnace and it has two stages; a high stage and a low stage.

  • REFRIGERANT CHANGES: Trane incorporated a complete refrigerant conversion from HCFC-22 to an environmentally responsible HFC refrigerant, R-410A, for its entire unitary product line in the Americas to ensure full compliance with federal refrigerant regulations in 2009.

  • WILL YOU REMOVE MY OLD EQUIPMENT AND DISPOSE OF IT? Yes, we remove all old equipment and recover any refrigerant according to EPA guidelines.

  • HOW MUCH MONEY WILL A 95% FURNACE SAVE ME OVER MY CURRENT FURNACE?
Typically, most older furnaces have an efficiency rating of 65% or less so your energy savings could be 30% or more depending on your usage.

  • HOW MUCH WILL A 13 SEER A/C or  HEATPUMP SAVE ME OVER MY CURRENT SYSTEM?
Typically most of the older units we replace have ratings of 8-10 SEER, so you could expect savings in the 30-50% range on your cooling bill.

  • SHOULD I HAVE A YEARLY MAINTAINANCE AGREEMENT?  Absolutely, you wouldn't operate your car for 10 years without oil changes or inspections. Your heating and cooling system is a machine that needs regular service for a long durable life.

  • WHAT TIME SHOULD I EXPECT A CREW OUT TO INSTALL MY NEW UNIT?  Our crews start their days at 7:30 AM at our shop. They restock their trucks and go over the installation with your consultant and supervisor, so they typically arrive at your home between 8-8:30 AM. Alternative times can be arranged with the consultants.

  • DO YOU USE ANYTHING TO PROTECT MY FLOOR COVERING?  Yes, our technicians all have clean floor coverings on each truck and we make every effort to leave your home as clean as it was when we arrived.

  • WHAT IS A GEOTHERMAL HEAT PUMP?  It is a heat pump that uses ground water instead of outside air to provide heating, cooling and in some cases hot water.
HELPFUL HINTS
  • Use a shop-vac to clean out your drain line on a regular basis. This will prevent the water from backing up and causing damage to your home or office.

  • Remember to change your air filter on a monthly basis. This simple task can often save you time and money by preventing break downs that require a service tech to repair.

  • Before calling for a service technician always be sure to check your breakers and your thermostat to be sure they are turned on. Many service calls can be avoided by a simple reset of the breakers and thermostat.

  • If you or family members suffers from health problems, talk with our consultants about an appropriate unit for your home. The right system will reduce the amount of harmful particles in the air and help slow or stop the spread of sickness to other family members.

If you are having problems with your system please give us a call to see what can be done to put your system back to its normal running capacity. Dan's always has someone available to take your call.
