Only one city tops Wichita for allergies. |
From the Wichita Eagle October 2009.
Any other time, being No. 2 among the 100 largest metro areas would probably be reason to celebrate. This No. 2 ranking seems more like a reason to pray.
For an early, hard freeze.
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America has released its list of 100 fall allergy capitials, and Wichita is No. 2, behind McAllen, Texas. Also in the top five, in order: Louisville, Ky., Oklahoma City and Jackon, Miss. The organization said Wichita moved up from No. 8 a year ago. The rankings are based on pollen scores, the number of prescription and over-the-counter allergy medications used per patient, and the number of allergy specialists per patient. The ranking came as no surprise to two of those specialists, who say Wichita's relatively dry weather, flat locations and wind make it a horrid spot for allergy sufferers. |

DAN'S IS THINKING GREEN..... |
Electricity used in our homes predominantly comes from the burning of fossil fuels at power plants which contributes to global warming. Simply put, using energy-efficient products and practices in our homes helps fight global warming by reducing these greenhouse gas emissions. If just one household in 10 bought energy efficient TRANE products, which is ENERGY STAR qualified heating and cooling equipment, we could prevent 14 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions—equal to those from nearly 1.2 million cars—every year according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.
At Dan’s Heating and Cooling we are a TRANE dealer and our products meet and exceed the standards set by the government for energy efficiency.
THE KEY IS FINDING THE RIGHT CONTRACTOR:
At Dan’s Heating and Cooling we will:
- Install equipment in easily accessible areas for easy maintenance
- Test for adequate airflow and verify that the system has been charged with the correct refrigerant level in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines
- Conduct a combustion safety test after ducts are sealed to be sure all gas or oil-burning appliances are working properly
- Replace indoor and outdoor coils for maximum efficiency

Trane Introduces new products |
From Trane Press Release Oct 2009:
Trane Introduces 17 New Products - Completes Mandatory Refrigerant Conversion for Entire Americas Unitary Product Line in Advance of Regulatory Deadlines
- All New Americas Unitary Systems Now 100 Percent Compliant with 2010 Refrigerant Regulations -
Clarksville, Tenn., Oct. 13, 2009 — Customers asked. Trane responded. Trane just completed an unprecedented introduction of new products and concluded a refrigerant conversion for its entire unitary product line in the Americas.
The product introductions which offer customers more innovative ways than ever before to optimize energy and operational efficiency directly address customer feedback requesting more comfort system options to navigate the current economic environment. In response, the company will have launched more new products worldwide in the past 18 months than in the past 20 years combined.
Trane also incorporated a complete refrigerant conversion from HCFC-22 to an environmentally responsible HFC refrigerant, R-410A, for its entire unitary product line in the Americas to ensure full compliance with federal refrigerant regulations. Unitary products are packaged products that are designed, built and tested in manufacturing facilities, then delivered to the customer for quick installation and operation. The conversion is complete today, well in advance of government deadlines.
“We are absolutely committed to being the world leader in creating multiple innovative systems to meet customer needs and help them achieve their own objectives while giving thoughtful guidance on how best to navigate ever-changing regulatory and environmental requirements,” said Mike Lamach, president and chief operating officer, Ingersoll Rand.
17 New Products Launched When it comes to new products, Trane has a strong history of bringing innovative products to the marketplace, such as the convector radiator, which revolutionized the heating industry in the 1930s; the industry’s first hermetic, centrifugal refrigeration machine for large commercial building applications in the 1940s; and the industry’s first factory-mounted integrated heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) controls, which were offered on all the company’s products in the 1980s.
Among the 17 new products launched over the past 18 months are systems engineered to address customer feedback and offer performance improvements. Examples include:
Trane Introduces 17 New Products - Completes Mandatory Refrigerant Conversion -2 • Model CGAM air-cooled scroll chiller – Customers requested greater energy efficiency, lower sound levels and an easier-to-install system. Available in 20- to 120-ton capacities, Model CGAM replaced Model CGAF (20- to 60-ton capacity) and Model RTAA (70- to 125-ton capacity). CGAM is approximately 50 percent more efficient at partial load than the minimum efficiency targets of ASHARAE 90.1, and up to 10 percent more efficient at full load than ASHRAE 90.1 targets. CGAM is 5 to 8 dBA quieter than both RTAA and CGAF, and is faster to install, service and commission, thanks in part to a factory-installed water flow switch and water strainer.
• Odyssey split-system – The redesigned Odyssey product provides flexibility, serviceability, reliability and durability with superior performance. The split-system provides ease of installation with lower cost of ownership. In response to customer feedback, the new Odyssey features microprocessor controls for greater control and increased system reliability and an increased ambient temperature rating to 125 degrees F to meet global demand. Available in capacities ranging from 6 to 20 tons of cooling, Odyssey split-systems are applicable across many markets, including education, commercial real estate, retail and government buildings.
• Precedent™ rooftop units – This high-efficiency packaged rooftop unit delivers high reliability, easier installation and less maintenance – in short, a lower total cost of ownership. In response to customer feedback, the redesigned system which replaces the Precedent R-22 is 15 percent more efficient than typical packaged systems and ASHRAE 90.1 requirements. Models are also as much as 46 percent lighter than comparable units because customers requested a smaller and lighter cabinet for easier installation and service. To achieve this, the new system features a highly efficient, ultra-quiet, direct-drive, plenum fan (featuring a backward-inclined blade design). This allows for overall weight and unit-size reduction, reducing energy consumption and utility costs. The system offers three stages of cooling on high-efficiency dual-compressor units for more precise temperature control and year-round energy savings.
• Tracer SC™ System – A flexible, scalable, efficient and cost-effective solution for maintaining facility climate and improving indoor air quality, the Tracer SC control system improves the energy efficiency of rooftop variable air volume (VAV) systems by up to 25 percent. The system’s capabilities are based on extensive market research into customer needs including Web-enabled control, support of open standard protocols and scalability. Usability testing has helped in the development of a user interface that allows increased productivity.
• Performance Climate Changer™ air handler – The design of this air handler reflects input from nearly 1,000 customers who requested increased energy efficiency to help with rising energy costs, superior casing performance for product sustainability and longevity, as well as lower installed cost to keep projects on time and within budget. The Performance Climate Changer is the most energy-efficient air handler in its class. This highly flexible unit is designed to provide a clean, comfortable environment for commercial, industrial and institutional buildings while providing superior performance, industry-leading energy efficiency and system optimization at the lowest installed cost.
Trane redesigned every system to provide greater operating efficiency, serviceability, flexibility, reliability and durability as well as superior performance. In addition, the company made the units safer to manufacture and service, easier to install and better to operate with environmentally responsible, compliant refrigerant. |
